The Bike Shed, Los Angeles

A few places around the world act as a cultural center of gravity for motorcyclists — and wannabe motorcyclists. In London, one such Moto Mecca grew out of a motorcycle lifestyle blog. The popular blog hosted a live event in 2013, and went on to open a permanent venue in 2015 called The Bike Shed.

It became a destination in London, eventually opening a restaurant, barbershop, concert venue, and public event space. In 2022, the doors opened on the Bike Shed LA in the cool Arts District.

While I was in LA for a wedding on the tail end of a business trip, I dragged the family to the Bike Shed so that I could get a haircut. Everyone enjoyed Deus Ex Machina in LA a few years ago, so it wasn’t a hard sell. It was pretty chill when we arrived in the late morning.

A few weeks earlier, I took delivery of a print of this now-famous Bike Shed poster, which adorns my den for online meetings.

The cafe, tattoo, barber, and clothing areas were busier.

I grabbed a couple of t-shirts and a coffee mug. But the bikes were the highlight.

Celebs will often have their personal rides on display. Both of these belong to Brad Pitt.

While I was getting my hair cut at lunchtime, the traffic really picked up. In that last photo, you can see the parking lot, which had gone from nearly empty to packed with bikes.
